There are perks to being a programmer (especially if you're one of few in the office). Aside from being seen as a mysterious internet-whisperer who can magically make computers behave, you have the power to liven up the dreary cubicle farm. All you need are a few JavaScript snippets of code, a coworker's vacant office cubicle, and a ninja suit. Okay, scratch the suit...that might be too obvious.

Getting Browser Hacks to Work

If you've never used a browser hack or even JavaScript, these JavaScript hacks are still easy enough to use: just copy and paste over the current page's URL. Basically, these JavaScript snippets work perfectly on Firefox 3+ but note that this does not work in all browsers and platforms equally, so do a little testing before you attempt your diabolical schemes.

1) Make Web Browser Editable

Imagine the possibilities: your coworker settles down into his cubicle, refilled coffee cup in hand, only to see a scandalous article about him on his favorite news site. With one swift little copy-paste move, you've successfully wreaked havoc in the workplace. This great little code works by rendering the text editable, so you can change headlines, prices, and other HTML text to your heart's content. Your only limitation is your imagination.

To begin your shenanigans, copy and paste this JavaScript code over the url in your browser:

javascript:document.body.contentEditable='true'; document.designMode='on'; void 0

2) Complete Browser Freak Out

If subtlety isn't your specialty, this JavaScript prank will be your cup of tea (or, in this case, your ultra-caffeinated double-shot espresso). This nice little code will cause the browser to literally bounce off the walls, shaking all over the desktop. The key here is timing; if your coworker's office cubicle is abandoned, you should have a pretty good idea of when she'll be coming back, and adjust the code as needed. First, try out the code below by pasting it into the browser:

javascript:function Shw(n) {if (self.moveBy) {for (i = 35; i > 0; i--) {for (j = n; j > 0; j--) {self.moveBy(1,i);self.moveBy(i,0);self.moveBy(0,-i);self.moveBy(-i,0); } } }} Shw(6)-accident

As you can see, the hyper browser is very amusing, but wouldn't last long enough for a sneak-attack prank. For this escapade, you'll likely need to edit the code to last a little longer. To do so, find the statement that says i = 35, and change the number to something larger (300 will buy you about 30 seconds, 600 a minute, and so on).

3) Buzzing Swarm of Images

Ready to liven up some cubicles? Never fear - there's a code for that. This amusing script grabs images from the web page and makes them-well, dance. Imagine the expression on your coworkers' faces when they find a swarm of images buzzing like bees around their page. Paste this code into the unsuspecting victim's browser to begin the hijinks:

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.getElementsByTagName("img"); DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position='absolute'; DIS.left=(Math.sin(R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5)+"px"; DIS.top=(Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5)+"px"}R++}setInterval('A()',5); void(0);

Then, sit back and enjoy the exclamations of confusion. No one can say your job is boring now!
